Professional Handyman

Professional Handyman

I was at a clients house last week providing my regular Professional Handyman service when my client told me that one of the three light switches at the bottom of the stairs did not do anything. I removed the face plate and found that it was a three way switch but there were no wires connected to the switch. In fact there were no wires to connect to the switch. I then removed the face plate at the top of the stairs and it was a regular two way switch and just regular 14-2 wire. There was no 14-3 wire which is required for a three way switch. The switches at the top and bottom of the stairs had never been wired for three way switches.

I then I lifted one panels for the suspended ceiling and found a junction box with too many wires in it and no cover plate on the box. The reason there was no cover plate was because they could not stuff that many wires in the box to get the cover plate on. There was also white wires twisted together with no wire nut and some of the ground wires were not attached.
My client needed to hire an electrician to check out his whole house to make sure it is safe and to fix all the problems. The house is less than ten years old so it has been like this since the house was built.
I am amazed at how many houses I am in that have electrical problems. Electrical problems are one of the major causes of house fires. As a professional handyman I will tell you if I find something that is not right and will advise you to hire a certified electrician.
It is a wise investment to hire a ACHP Certified Professional Handyman to be sure you will get your jobs done right a professional handyman who knows what he is doing and can spot problems before they become major problems.
