Exterior Door

Do you have an exterior door that needs to be installed? Many people would consider an exterior door installation a two-person job. A skilled handyman like Stan can install an exterior door by himself.
The first step is to check that the door that you have purchased is the right size to fit in the opening. The old door and trim need to be removed next and the screws cut to remove the old door frame. The door is installed and the frame is shimmed square so that the door will swing freely. A long screw is put through each hinge into the frame and long screws are put through the lock strike plates into the frame. The door trim is put on one side of the door and the door frame is then foamed to keep out the cold before installing the door trim on the other side of the door and door handle. Care must be taken to not over foam the door frame since the expanding foam can bend the frame and cause the door to jam.
If the new exterior door is installed properly it should not swing open or closed by itself. It should close tight against the door seals so that you can not see light around the door.
