Only one pillar needed a pillar repair. It had quite a bit of rot in it and it was on the front side of the pillar so I had to do a pillar repair that would not be noticed when it was finished.
I gouged out all of the rotten wood, but the hard part in doing the pillar repair was to stop the wood filler from falling into the pillar which was hollow. To accomplish this repair I used a string and a piece of plastic which I put inside the pillar and held in place by wrapping a string around the pillar
I sanded the pillar by wrapping a strip of plumbers sandpaper around the pillar. When painted you could not tell that a repair had been done.
